Drive Green Times Two
How You Drive Can Affect Both Your Wallet and the Planet

If predictions are right and gas prices go up this summer, the last thing you will probably think of is how environmentally conscious your driving habits are. But there's green to be had when you drive green. Sometimes saving the planet is the best way to save money.
Here are a few tips that will help you put more money in your pocket and fewer pollutants into the air this summer.
Take it easy: Jack-rabbit starts and slamming on your brakes are both tremendous wastes of energy, fuel and the patience of others. If you can drive less aggressively, it will add years to your life while subtracting harmful emissions from your environment and saving you money on fuel and maintenance.
Combine trips: Make a list, check it twice and do all your errands in one shot. Multiple trips wear out your car, increase your fuel costs and add to the Air Quality Alerts all summer.
Avoid rush hour: Traffic jams aren't just annoying, they are an enormous waste of fuel. All those cars idling on the highways, not going anywhere and still burning all that gas is a recipe for destruction of the environment and your monthly gas budget.
Check tires: Tires lose a lot of air over the winter, so it's probably time to get them back to the recommended pressure. A properly filled tire, especially some of the new low-rolling-resistance (LRR) tires, are designed to save you a lot more fuel than you might think.
Car pool: If you can find the right tribe, carpooling will save you hundreds every year in reduced gas, reduced parking costs and reduced wear and tear on your vehicle. It would be difficult to find a more energy efficient way to save a lot of money.
Other helpful tips include removing excess items from your trunk, driving at a slower speed, and using the air conditioner less. Not only are these tips helpful during the warmer months, but most can be used 365 days a year to help put some "green" back into your wallet.
