The best fuel-price tracking app is GasBuddy. The best thing about this app is that it's free and it works on iPhone and Android phones. In our tests, GasBuddy had the most accurate information and you can even update your fellow users on the gas prices in your neighborhood when they change. This user-contribution model is likely one of the reasons this app was the most reliable.
If you're willing to pay for a gas tracking app, then check out FuelFinder. It's only available on the iPhone right now, so you're out of luck if you're an Android user. This app's geolocation services are great when you're in unfamiliar areas. It finds your location and gives you a real-time map of not only the closest stations, but also their current prices. It costs $2.99.
For $.99 you can try iGasUp. The best feature of iGasUp is that you can save a list of "favorite" gas stations and check those on demand. This app uses real-time credit card transactions to determine what customers are currently paying. For less than a buck, you can't go wrong. Once again, iGasUp is only available on the iPhone.
If you're more concerned with tracking your fuel economy, then GasHog might be a worthwhile download for you. It costs $.99 and tracks your fuel economy in between each fill up. However, GasHog is currently only available on the iPhone.
Android users aren't completely out of luck. Google Maps has introduced a new beta navigation feature that factors in traffic wait times, so you can get out of potentially gas-guzzling pileups.
