| All the publicity over Punxsutawney Phil each February is viewed with a little skepticism here at H&H Chevrolet. You see we have our own celebrity groundhog we call H&H Howie. Named after Chevrolet spokesperson, Howie Long, our celeb would never dream of getting up and checking whether the sun's out on a cold February day. He lives on the hill east of the main building and he's doing his normal hibernation thing when Phil is cavorting around on Groundhog's Day. |

Groundhogs, or woodchucks as they are sometimes called, (and yes, if our woodchuck would want to chuck wood, he could and would chuck a lot of wood) are one of 14 marmot species and are actually the largest member of the squirrel family. Groundhogs beef up every summer and fall before going into their long sleep in October. They usually are ready to rock about mid-March to early April - - not in early February.
H&H Howie has lived on the hill for years. In the past he has startled more than one H&H associate by crashing around under the steps as the unsuspecting walk down. One associate even slipped and fell after being startled by the mischievous rodent. Another associate claimed that Howie was under the steps growling. But knowing Howie, we think he was chattering angrily. His mischievous nature is the reason we put some large river rock under the steps forcing Howie to take up residence on another portion of the hill.
And that's where he is now . . . sleeping. |
